Samsung Introduces A Ton of New Smartphones
Aiming to seize the lucrative smartphone market, especially the fast-growing Asia region, Samsung Electronics, the second-largest mobile phone maker, will unveil a diverse set of smartphones based on Android, Windows Mobile, and bada, it’s own smartphone platform, at CommunicAsia 2010 in Singapore from June 15 to June 18.
The new-lineup of Samsung smartphones includes the Wave 2 and Wave 2 Pro, which are bada-based smartphones, the Android-powered Galaxy Beam, Galaxy 3 and Galaxy 5, and the Windows Mobile 6.5-based Omnia Pro 4 and Omnia Pro 5.
With this smartphone line-up, Samsung is expected to drive and fulfill consumer demand for innovative new technologies and lifestyle experiences.
To achieve our commitment to the “Democratization of the smartphone era, Samsung will continue to invest in multiple platforms and offer a wide range of choices and experiences for consumers,” said JK Shin, head of the mobile communications business at Samsung.
With the Android-based Galaxy series, Samsung is mainly targeting the high-end market, while the bada-based Wave series is for the mass market, especially attracting feature-focused phone users and rational smartphone buyers with an affordable price.
By creating an ecosystem that is centered on its own bada platform, Samsung is embracing application developers. Samsung has launched the “Bada Developer Challenge,” an application contest with a prize pot totaling $ 2,700,000.
Meanwhile, in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) smartphone market, shipments in 2010 are expected to grow 53% year-on-year to reach 76.7 million units and are projected to easily surpass 100 million units in 2011, according to marketing research firm Canalys. APAC will overtake Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) in 2012 to become the largest regional smart phone market, accounting for 36% of global shipments, the marketer said.
