First Samsung Smartphone to be Introduced to DoCoMo Customers
Samsung Electronics’ smartphone will first be introduced through NTT DoCoMo, the No. 1 mobile operator in Japan in February of next year.
Among DoCoMo’s lineup of 19 new kinds of handsets that will launch on or after November 20 to next February, will be a Samsung smartphone included in the DoCoMo Pro series with a model name of SC-01B.
The Windows Phone (formerly Windows Mobile) based SC-01B is Samsung’s first mobile phone to be offered to a DoCoMo customer. Until now, the main contractor of Samsung in Japan was Softbank, while DoCoMo has a tight relationship with LG Electronics, and Pantech has dealt with KDDI, respectively.
“The SC-01B model is a dedicated smartphone model for DoCoMo, and we expect it to be a first step in expanding our mobile phone offering to DoCoMo customers,” said Sophia Kim, spokesperson of Samsung.
The SC-01B sports a 2.6-inch TFT-LCD display with 320 x 320 pixels and 65,000 colors. The 3-megapixel cameraphone has a QWERTY keypad like the Blackberry and uses the Qualcomm MSM7225 chipset.
