Expanding Android Will Help Samsung and LG
As Android-platform based smartphones emerge as major contenders to Apple’s iPhone and RIM’s BlackBerry, the expansion of Android will be especially helpful for Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, which are behind in the smartphone market in comparison to other competitors, according to a brief report issued by Seoul-based brokerage firm Samsung Securities.
Korean mobile phone makers have competitive power in high-specification phones based on application processor, AMOLED display, a high-resolution camera module, and full HD video over other competitors, and these capabilities will be positive differentiation factors in the smartphone sector, the report said. As Android smartphone users increase in the global market, they will recognize the value of the importance of hardware specifications, Samsung Securities said.
In the relationship with Google and device makers, the risk of subordination to Google along with expansion of the Android platform is not a major concern, Samsung Securities said. Google may want to keep at arm’s length with Android smartphone makers to expand its ground in advertisement and content business in the mobile field.
