Samsung up, LG down in Handset market shares during October
Amidst shrinkage in the local mobile phone market, Samsung Electronics reached a record monthly market share of 56% followed by LG Electronics, which controls 22.5%. At its peak with 3 million unit sales in June, the local mobile phone market decreased for the fourth straight month to 1.3 million units in October, down from 1.4 million in September.
Samsung sold 770,000 units in October due to a boost from its Haptic phone series. The company’s Haptic series has sold a cumulative 4 million units in the local market, including the Haptic AMOLED with 400,000 units, the Haptic with 600,000 and the Haptic 2 with 550,000.
LG is losing ground with its sales of 300,000 units, down from 550,000, with a market share of more than 30% in August due because it lacks any appealing models. The company’s flagship models, such as the “New Chocolate” and the “Wine Phone 3″ failed to attract consumers’ attention. However, LG said that its Chocolate phone has sold 80,000 units since its debut last month and expects that it will gain momentum in the local market.
The No. 3 maker, Pantech, reportedly has about a 15% market share with 200,000 unit sales. The market share gap between LG and Pantech is close, at about 10%.
Meanwhile, the local handset market expects to diminish this month due to a decrease in mobile operators’ subsidy and no seasonal effects.

Samsung makes up 56%, LG 22.5%, Pantech 15% of the mobile phone market share. So may I know which companies account for the other 6.5%?
Thanks.
