KT, South Korea’s second-largest mobile operator, said Monday that it will purchase a 25 percent stake in Omnitel China in a bid to tap the Chinese telecommunications market.
Omnitel China, a mobile contents provider, is a Chinese subsidiary of South Korea’s Omnitel which specializes in telecommunications services, KT said in a statement
“We plan to support our subsidiaries and other domestic mobile contents providers’ entry into the Chinese market and find related business opportunities there,” Maeng Soo-ho, a head of KT’s global business unit, was quoted as saying in a statement.
Omnitel China has 12 million subscribers to its mobile service via China’s mobile carriers and it plans to develop entertainment contents on mobile phones, it added.
