LG Wins LTE Modem Certification from Japan

Submitted by TKorea on 2010/02/03 – 10:32 pmNo Comment

LG Electronics, a Korean telecom equipment maker, announced that its LD100 data modem card has became the first LTE (Long Term Evolution) device to receive Telecom Engineering Center (TELEC) certification in Japan.

Designated by Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, TELEC certificates are issued to products that have passed a series of tests for consistency with Japanese Radio Law technical regulations, LG said. With TELEC approval, the LD100 will be technically ready for a field trial with Japan’s LTE network, which is being operated by NTT DoCoMo, Japan’s largest mobile operator, the company said. DoCoMo plans to launch its LTE service later this year.

Meanwhile, LG received approval of its two previous LTE devices from the Federal Communications Commission in the U.S. The LEO3 became the first LTE device to receive approval, followed by the M13 — a handover terminal for CDMA2000 EV-DO and LTE — in May.
